The Open Road Race Timer is tailored for high-speed automobile racing on closed highways. The race's aim is to navigate a specified course at a fixed speed, resulting in a target time to reach the finish line.

Your start time will be assigned to the nearest minute or half-minute following the race's commencement. Configure the speed and distance parameters and calculate the time within the Setup interface of the application. Allow the app to initiate a countdown to the beginning of your race.

If the calculated time deviates from the official time by even a fraction of a second, engage the "Distance" button to access fine adjustments through the plus and minus controls. Time is a critical factor for accurate displays and calculations.

The timer will commence an automatic countdown. It is advisable to synchronize your app's clock with the official race clock before starting your race.

As an alternative, you can opt to display a "Start Now" button on the main screen by enabling it in Settings. However, bear in mind that the precision and reliability of the automatic countdown surpass any human-triggered start.

Speed can be set in 5 mph increments ranging from 60 to 170 miles per hour. Beginners can practice with shorter distances and slower speeds.

Settings offer flexibility to adjust the precision of various displays. Furthermore, there is an option that dictates whether the app halts computations at the Finish Line based on either the official time or distance - with default settings prompting cessation at zero distance from the official finish line.

If desired, you can input the GPS coordinates of the Finish Line. The app includes four preset Finish Line coordinates for both Northbound and Southbound segments of specific courses; however, validating these coordinates with the race organizer is recommended.

By selecting Finish Line coordinates during setup, any Time Error to the Finish Line is calculated when within half a mile of concluding the race. This feature is useful in races involving out-and-back segments wherein total error estimates are crucial for determining optimal return stage targets.

The app utilizes GPS inputs to track rally routes, displaying deviations from ideal time and distance in seconds ahead or behind schedule. You have the option to record split times and distances covered, as well as set automatic split computations at predefined intervals.

Adjustments for fine-tuning GPS receiver distance from front wheels and clock time synchronization with official rally measures can be made through an adjustment popup, securing changes as needed.

In case discrepancies arise between the Time of Day (T.O.D.) clock within the app and rally's official clock, manual synchronization is supported with precision adjustments possible as required.

App Settings extend customization options for Time, Speed, Distance displays as well as facilitating whole number or decimal presentation of Time error values.

For enhanced GPS reception accuracy, it is advised to use third-party wireless GPS receivers. The app's compatibility has been validated with Bluetooth-connected Dual XGPS150A GPS Receivers. The application functions seamlessly on iPhones and iPads, including models without cellular connectivity; however, Bluetooth usage with only one device in proximity of the Dual Receiver is supported. Ensuring non-app-running devices are in Airplane mode can help optimize connectivity.
